Final figures from the agricultural statistics service show a crop of 418 million hundredweight, about 19 million tonnes, only 1 percent below 2024. Sales value, however, dropped to 4.21 billion dollars, roughly 410 million less, because the average price slid by 90 cents to 10.80 dollars per hundredweight. Better yields, now 462 hundredweight per acre, offset a 3 percent smaller harvested area. Idaho still delivers about a third of national output, ahead of Washington, Wisconsin, Oregon and Colorado. The income squeeze matters for 2026: the Economic Research Service reports that plantings fell for a third straight year, with Idaho behind about half of the cut. Buyers who enjoyed ample supply last season may face a tighter market. The numbers describe a finished crop, so contract prices and the size of the 2026 harvest will decide whether grower revenue recovers.
US potato growers earned less from the 2025 crop. The value of all potatoes sold was $4.21 billion. That is 9% less than in 2024, when it was $4.62 billion.
The figures come from the annual potato summary of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The agency released it on 25 September 2026.
Slightly smaller crop, lower price
Production reached 418 million cwt in 2025. That is about 19 million tonnes. It was 1% below the 2024 crop of 421.17 million cwt.

Harvested area fell 3% to 903,200 acres, from 927,000 acres in 2024. The average yield rose by 8 cwt to 462 cwt per acre. That equals about 51.8 t/ha.
The price explains most of the loss in value. The average price was $10.80 per cwt, down $0.90 from 2024. This is about $238 per tonne.
Idaho grows one-third of the crop
Idaho remained the largest producer with 139.95 million cwt. That is about 33.5% of the US total. Other leading states were:

Fewer acres in 2026
